A woman was stabbed in the back during a domestic incident Monday afternoon, according to Troup County sheriff’s officials.

The victim and a man, identified as Fred Beegle Jr., 36, of Lanett, Alabama, were at a home in the 500 block of Briley Road and arguing over a dog, said Sgt. Stewart Smith, Troup County sheriff’s public information officer. The argument became physical, and during a struggle, Beegle allegedly stabbed the victim in the lower back with an unspecified type of knife.

Beegle fled the scene, Smith said, but was later found by deputies and taken into custody without incident. The victim was taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where she was treated and released Monday.

Beegle faces a charge of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act. He was being held at the Troup County Jail this morning without bond.

Shooting disrupts weekend party

Attendees to a party in the 900 block of Georgia Avenue said someone fired shots outside the home early Saturday morning.

A responding officer said people were fleeing the area on foot and in cars when he arrived about 2:54 a.m., and he couldn’t stop them for information. He spoke with the resident, who said she had her back turned when the shots were fired.

She said a dark-colored car pulled up just before the incident and several males got out, but was unsure who fired and why. The officer said there were “numerous” bullet casings on the porch of the home. Police also located a discarded gun magazine.

Police said there was no evidence that anyone was struck by bullets. Police were investigating it as a reckless conduct incident.

Father: Dog bites child on face, neck

A German shepherd dog allegedly bit a child of unspecified age on the face, neck and scalp in the 700 block of South Lee Street on Saturday.

The child’s father said his children were playing in the yard when the dog, which belonged to a nearby resident, came up and began biting the child. The father said he kicked the dog until it let go and took the child to West Georgia Medical Center.

The officer spoke with the owner, who showed that the dog was up to date on vaccinations. Animal control did not confiscate the dog.

Man, 20, charged with underage drinking, running from police

A 20 year old faces charges of consumption of alcohol by a minor and resisting arrest after he allegedly tried to hide underneath a van behind a home in the 800 block of Mona Lane. An officer responding to a 911 call said the suspect had a beer in his hand, had to be pulled from underneath the vehicle and allegedly admitted to drinking beer with three others at the home, who all ran and escaped during the incident.

Man claims he was stabbed to get girlfriend removed

Police, fire and EMS officials responded to Cameron Crossing apartments off Mooty Bridge Road on Saturday after a call that a person had been stabbed and was having trouble breathing. After arriving, police found the supposed victim, who appeared OK and told them “nothing is going on.” He had blood on his shirt, which he said came from a wire hangar, and allegedly admitted he had lied to a relative about being stabbed, and he actually just wanted his girlfriend out of the house.

The couple was cited for disorderly house.

Drunken man tries to fight officer

A man who allegedly came up to an officer in the 1300 block of Washington Street and threatened to fight him faces public drunkenness and disorderly conduct charges.

Family members, who had called 911, tried to calm the intoxicated man down, but asked something be done with him because he was causing a disturbance. Two officers handcuffed the man, who tried to pull away, but they subdued him. He was arrested and taken to Troup County Jail.

Thefts

• A man staying at Comfort Inn, 1512 Lafayette Parkway, on Monday said that someone cut off the padlock to his trailer that was parked behind the business and stole from inside a Browning 308 rifle valued at $650, a Browning 12-gauge shot gun valued at $800, a Winchester 7mm rifle valued at $900, an old 1800s black powder revolver valued at $1 and five boxes of baseball cards, $3,000 had been taken out of the trailer.

• An employee of Pet Sense, 141 Commerce Ave., said he laid his iPhone 4s, valued at $400, next to a cash register Monday while working and someone took it.

• A resident of Cameron Crossing apartments off Mooty Bridge Road said someone stole her 2013 Nissan Altima valued at $26,000 from the parking lot Sunday. The owner said she still had the keys and the doors had been locked, so she wasn’t sure how a thief could have taken it. The reporting officer saw no broken glass and the victim said the vehicle was not wanted for repossession.

• Someone stole a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro, valued at $5,000, from the 100 block of Garfield Street, a resident reported. The resident said he had been fixing up the vehicle for its owner, and when he finished he told the owner it was ready and placed the keys inside. The vehicle was gone the next morning, but the owner said he hadn’t taken it. The resident said his tool box valued at $120 and a $90 jack also were in the car.

• A resident of the 100 block of Brookside Terrace said it appeared someone had tampered with her deadbolt and found missing an iPhone 6 valued at $600, a jar of change, a black Micheal Kors watch with gold trim valued at $50 and a gold necklace with a Jesus charm valued at $50.

Fraud

A LaGrange man said someone opened fraudulent accounts in Clayton County under his name that were now in collections for $3,643.
