A LaGrange man was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital Saturday night after suffering a gunshot wound to his thigh.

The victim’s condition was unavailable at press time.

The man was shot outside the Wood Glen Apartments at 64 N. Cary St., according to LaGrange police.

Police responded to the apartment complex, where the victim was sitting on a sidewalk being treated by LaGrange Fire Department medical personnel, about 11 p.m. Saturday. The victim told police he was walking in front of the apartments when he heard a shot and felt the bullet hit him.

The victim said he didn’t see who fired the shot or where it came from. A bystander called 911 for the man after finding him, according to LaGrange police detective Robert Kirby.

Police created a perimeter and searched the area. Detectives began an investigation into the shooting, which was ongoing this morning. No arrests had been made as of this morning and police were investigating the shooting as an aggravated assault.

In another incident, a Jefferson Street couple Friday night called police after a bullet that struck their home.

The two residents said they were in the bedroom of the home about 10 p.m. Friday when they heard something that the husband thought sounded like a rock hitting the window, but the wife said she was certain it wasn’t. They called police and an officer looked at the window, discovering a bullet lodged in it.

No one in the neighborhood reported hearing any gunshots prior to the incident, and the reporting officer said there were no calls reporting gunshots around that time.

Detectives were investigating the incident as reckless conduct.

Police as anyone with information about these, or other crimes, to call Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000 or LaGrange police at 706-883-2603.
