Body discovered in woods near Greenville

Deputies with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a body found near the intersection of Primrose Circle and Todd Road, just north of Greenville on Monday evening.

Investigators said a homeowner there told them he was checking his property when he discovered a partially decomposed body in a wooded area.

“At that time we cordoned off the area and began our investigation,” said Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith. The (Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s) Crime Scene Unit was called into assist our investigators with processing the scene. As of now we can only report that the remains appear to be that of a white male. The cause of death has yet to be determined; however it is suspicious in nature based on the scene investigation.”

Smith said the body was transported to the GBI crime lab by the Meriwether County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies continue to canvass the area to see if anyone has seen or heard anything regarding this matter.

Smith also said investigators have also been in contact with surrounding law enforcement agencies to see if they have any recent missing person reports.
