WEST POINT — Officials with Georgia State Patrol said a father had marijuana and Alprazolam – a generic form of Xanax – in his system when the car he was driving crashed in February. His 1-year-old daughter later died from injuries sustained in the wreck.

The father, Sanquintses D. Bailey, 23, of West Point, has not been charged, but Sgt. 1st Class Maurice Raines said GSP will present the information to the District Attorney’s office. The DA’s office will determine any charges that may be filed.

The car wrecked Feb. 28 just after 2 a.m. at the corner of West Point and Peabody roads.

According to GSP troopers on the scene that night, Bailey was southbound on West Point Road when his car went off the road. According to a GSP report, Bailey over-corrected, causing the car to turn sideways and slide uncontrollably across Peabody Road, where it slammed into a building before coming to a stop.

Troopers said the infant daughter, Leslie Bailey, sustained serious head injuries in the crash and passed away at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta a week after the wreck.

Another passenger in the car, Eric Bridges, 21, of West Point sustained a spinal injury and was treated at Atlanta Medical Center, troopers said. Sanquintses Bailey reportedly suffered minor injuries and was treated at an Alabama hospital.
