LaGrange’s Pelham shines at Peachtree Road Race

Jonathan Pelham, the former LaGrange High standout who is heading to the University of Georgia on a track and field scholarship, was the top local finisher at the Peachtree Road Race on Saturday.

Pelham finished the 6.2-mile race with a time of 36 minutes, nine seconds, and he finished in 135th place overall.

Pelham nearly matched his time from a year ago when he was 206th with a time of 36:10.

LaGrange’s Mark Hhawu also had a strong race with a time of 38:27, and he was 285th overall.

Drew Duram, a cross-country standout at Troup High who’ll be a senior this fall, had a time of 41:10 and finished 1,152nd in a field of close to 60,000 runners.

LaGrange’s Joe Neal (44:53), John Wagner (45:24), Thavin Emerson (47:42) and David Erickson (47:57) each finished the race in less than 50 minutes.

The top female finisher from LaGrange was Janet English, who had a time of 54:13.

A pair of 11-year-olds from LaGrange, Aaron Fritchley and Nathan Fritchley, crossed the finish line in one hour.
