Valley, Ala., police investigate body found in creek as homicide

Police in Valley, Alabama, said a body was found early this morning in a creek near the intersection of Hopewell Road and Fairfax Bypass.

Officers found the body of a white woman, possibly in her late teens or early 20s, floating in a creek under a bridge. Authorities are investigating it as a homicide.

The woman’s identity has not been released, but she is described as having medium-length red hair.

Her body was taken to the Alabama State Medical Examiner’s Office in Montgomery for an autopsy.

Thefts

• A man staying at the Super 8, 1513 Lafayette Parkway, said Monday morning that he left his Samsung Galaxy G1 smartphone valued at $100 and book bag with other items inside his locked room, but when he returned the door was cracked and the items were missing.

• Thieves cut the hookups to two air-conditioning units to apartments at 800 Borton Street in the LaGrange Housing Authority property and took one of the units. Housing authority personnel discovered the theft Monday evening, and one of the residents had reported that morning their air conditioning wasn’t working.

• A resident of the 100 block of Bonaventure Drive said she let a man she knows use her lawnmower valued at $180 to cut her and a neighbor’s grass, but hasn’t seen the mower since. She was unsure if the man took the lawnmower and couldn’t get in touch with him.

• A thief entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 900 block of Greenville Street and stole a Taurus .357 caliber revolver, the owner reported Saturday morning.
