WEST POINT — Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia Inc. has paid $25,000 to the Troup County Board of Tax Assessors as part of the plant’s $400,000 overall commitment to the board.

The funds will be used for additional manpower at the board’s discretion, according to Kia officials.

“We are happy to be able to provide this funding and hope that the increased manpower will be a big benefit to the Board of Tax Assessors,” said Randy Jackson, KMMG’s senior vice president of human resources and administration.

Wayne Bartley, chairman of the Troup County Board of Tax Assessors, thanked KMMG for the plant’s ongoing commitment to the board.

“These additional funds will help make sure that the citizens of Troup County can continue to have confidence in property valuations,” he said.

KMMG had previously pledged funds as part of a 2012 bond agreement with local governments for expansion of the West Point plant. It was agreed to go toward an additional assessor for the office as Kia anticipated the addition of new equipment and taxable property that would need to be evaluated by tax assessors.
