WEST POINT — Recently, West Georgia Technical College was presented with a second-generation Kia Sorento by Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. and a Global Diagnostic System by Kia Motors America.

The Sorento will join a fleet of six Kia vehicles used by WGTC automotive technology students for training purposes only as they learn the necessary skills to prepare for an automotive service and repair career. Each WGTC campus offering automotive technology courses now uses a Kia vehicle in its automotive lab.

The Global Diagnostic System is Kia Motors America’s advanced service system delivering comprehensive diagnostic coverage for all Kia vehicles. WGTC students will be trained to use the GDS in diagnosing vehicle service and repair issues.

“We are deeply appreciative of Kia’s continued support of technical education,” said Steve G. Daniel, WGTC president. “This Sorento allows us to position a Kia at each of our automotive labs, and the GDS gives students the opportunity to get experience on the latest automotive technology as they prepare for their future careers.”

Last August, KMMG presented WGTC with four Kia Optima midsize sedans for use in automotive technology labs to join a Sorento given in 2010.

“With West Georgia Technical College, we are fortunate to have a premier technical college right here in our backyard,” said Randy Jackson, KMMG’s senior vice president of human resources and administration. “At KMMG, we hope that the donation of this vehicle will have a tremendous impact on the automotive program at the school and we look forward to continuing our support of technical schools across the region.”

The GDS was presented by David Wobst, director of KMA’s Irvine, Calif.-based Kia University training operation.
