LaGRANGE — LaGrange police have one man in custody after a morning shooting at the Tall Pines apartment complex at 150 Turner St.

LaGrange Police Department Lt. Dale Strickland said Joseph Jewell Porter, 18, of McGregor Street was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of participation in a criminal street gang.

Strickland alleged that Porter is a known member of the Bloods street gang.

Investigators said Porter and the victim had an ongoing argument over a female acquaintance. Porter went to the apartment complex Wednesday morning to confront the man and at some point during the verbal altercation, the suspect pulled out a gun and started firing, Strickland said.

The man ran from the gunshots and toward where an employee of the apartment complex was standing. Strickland said Porter fired at least two times, but neither victim was hurt in the incident.

Porter then allegedly fled the scene in a white SUV.

Eyewitnesses told police there were two other people with the suspect at the time of the shooting.

Strickland said investigators have identified one of them, a juvenile. Police have interviewed the juvenile and are speaking to other witnesses to determine whether any charges would be filed against him.

Investigators are also still looking for the possible third suspect.
