The Global Big Latch On is a worldwide event where participating mothers gather and feed their children at the same time.

“There is a hope that one day, every breastfeeding mother all around the world to have a Big Latch On location within walking distance of her home,” said Andrea Braswell, who helped organize this year’s event. “A group of naturally minded moms got together last year, making 2014 LaGrange’s first year participating in the Big Latch On. This year, Cameron Crossing Apartments supported the event by donating the meeting space.”

Several sponsors also contributed to raise awareness for the cause. They are Edelson’s Army Store, Go Realty’s Angie Cotton Jones, The Herb Shoppe Lagrange, J&J Painting and Remodeling, Full Metal Jacket Armory, Laurel Crossing Apartments, Whispering Pines Apartments, Holistic Vibes Health and Fitness, Mud Creek Graphics and Columbus’ cloth diaper store Baby Elements Boutique.

New for this year’s event, photographer Mandy Daniel created a makeshift mini studio for breastfeeding mothers to commemorate their attendance, Braswell said. Local vocalist and musician Jay Elle performed acoustic music and Starbucks of LaGrange donated coffee.

“We hope next year will be even bigger and better,” Braswell said. “Please join our Facebook group The Big Latch On-LaGrange, GA for up to date information and how you can help make it happen!”
