LEXINGTON, S.C. – A memorable and extremely successful summer season came to a close for the Troup National 9-10-year-old all-star baseball team on Wednesday.

Facing Florida in the semifinals of the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series, Troup National needed a win to keep its hopes for a championship alive.

It wasn’t meant to be, though.

Florida took control early and claimed a 12-1 victory to earn a spot in today’s championship game against Alabama.

Troup National, which was representing Georgia after winning the state tournament last month, finished third out of 12 teams in the World Series.

Troup National began the summer season by going 3-0 in the district tournament at the Harris Baseball Complex.

At the state tournament in Manchester, Troup National won all seven of its games, including a 7-3 win over Perry in the championship game.

With the state title in hand, Troup National earned an invitation to the World Series, which included 11 state champions as well as the host team.

Troup National opened its World Series stay with a 12-0 win over Virginia before winning two thrillers the next two days.

On Sunday, Troup National scored three runs in the sixth and final inning to beat Mississippi 5-2.

The following day, Troup National scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to beat Florida 5-4.

Troup National fell to Alabama 14-1 on Tuesday, setting up Wednesday’s elimination game against Florida.
