This letter is in response to Mr. Jerry Johnson’s article in the LaGrange Daily News on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015.

I agree with him in that our children do need “positive reinforcement” while they are learning. In fact, we all need it, in school and at work.

Where I disagree with him are his comments about using red ink to make corrections. He himself admits that he still remembers the days of red ink.

I bet he does not make the same mistakes today. It looks like he may have learned from his mistakes, which is what the teachers are trying to do by correcting with red ink.

The past has shown us that we learn from our mistakes and failures. Our children today are rewarded for everything they do. They do not understand what it means to work for something and feel good about their accomplishments.

Teachers continue with your red ink and also comment on what is done right. This way our children can learn.
