One driver is facing charges while another driver is still recovering from injures following a head-on collision early Saturday morning on Whitesville Street near the Stay Lodge motel.

LaGrange police officers said a white Ford F-150 and a black Kia Amanti collided about 4 a.m. Saturday. The F-150 also damaged a fence at All Self Storage on Lukken Industrial Drive East.

The driver of the Kia told the officer she was traveling north on Whitesville Street when the truck veered into her lane and hit her on the driver’s side, according to an officer’s report.

The woman complained of injuries to her leg and chest and was transported by ambulance to the emergency room for further treatment, the report stated.

LaGrange Police Department officers attempted to speak with the driver of the Ford F-150, identified in an LPD report as Shelisie Paige Gunn-Leather, 27, whose address was unavailable, but officers said she seemed disoriented. Officers also reported a “heavy odor” of alcohol coming from her.

According to the report, Gunn eventually gave officers her name and told them she didn’t know what happened. Officers reported that she admitted to them she had been drinking then started complaining of foot pain. She was also transported to the hospital.

Before she was transported, LPD officers told her she would be placed her under arrested on suspicion of DUI. She refused to consent to a blood-alcohol test.

Later at the hospital, an officer again spoke with Gunn, who again refused the test. A nurse had drawn blood from Gunn at about 5 a.m., according to the officer’s report, and advised the officer that it tested positive for alcohol. The officer anticipated obtaining a warrant to document the blood results.

Once she was released, Gunn was taken to Troup County Jail on charges of DUI, DUI less safe and failure to maintain lane.

Animal cruelty

A mother and son found themselves in trouble with law enforcement for allegedly letting their new puppy live in piles of feces.

The control officer said when he went to the apartment in the 1500 block of Hogansville Road on Saturday the stench from the back patio where they were keeping the 4- to 5-month-old puppy was overwhelming. According to the officer, the puppy did not have anywhere to lay on the floor due to the amount of fresh and old fecal matter on the patio.

The woman told officers that is where she keeps the puppy while she is at work during the day.

The officer said the puppy was in otherwise good health. He issued both the mother and son citations for animal cruelty and called in code enforcement.

Battery

A woman claims she was spit on and punched in the eye in front of her two small children.

The victim told an LPD officer she was waiting outside a residence in the 1000 block of Borton Street on Friday around midnight for the father of her two kids. She said she informed the man she would be moving, and he was not a fit role model for the children and he would not have access to see them.

The woman claimed that is when the man spit in her face and punched her in the eye, causing a laceration. The two small children, ages 2 and 4, also saw the incident.

The man left the scene. The mother was transported to West Georgia Medical Center for her injuries.

LPD obtained arrest warrants for the man for one count of battery and two count of cruelty to a child, third degree.
