The LaGrange Police Department is investigating the death of a 4-month-old boy found unresponsive Tuesday at Whispering Pines Apartments at 1515 Hogansville Road.

Officers responded to the apartment around 2:55 p.m. and found the child not breathing. A police report states EMS and LaGrange Fire Department personnel performed emergency life-saving procedures and transported the child to West Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased within an hour of his arrival.

The LaGrange Police Department Criminal Investigations Section this morning was conducting an investigation into the child’s death.

An autopsy was scheduled with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Traffic stop yields drugs, stolen gun

Two teens founds themselves in serious trouble when they attempted to roll through a LaGrange police check point at Mulberry and Miller streets early this morning.

An officer said the driver of the Nissan Rogue kept pulling forward while other officers commanded him to stop. While one officer spoke with the driver, the report states the passenger in the vehicle attempted to jump out at flee the scene. Another officer managed to block him and detain him.

When the passenger stood up, the officer said he found suspected marijuana in the passenger seat.

As another officer was getting the back left passenger out of the car, he reported seeing the teen conceal a firearm under his feet. The officer said the weapon came back as stolen out of Lanett, Alabama.

Both passengers, Marquavious Trey Wells, 17, and Corshawn Dwight Cameron, 18, were arrested.

LPD officers secured a warrant for Cameron for possession of marijuana. Wells will be charged with theft by receiving stolen property, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18.

Child found wandering

A woman discovered a 5-year-old boy crying and wandering on East Depot Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman called police and the responding officer was familiar with a home in the 300 block of Union Street where many children often were playing. The police report states when the officer went to the home, the occupant said the child was her grandson and that he must have wandered off.

The toddler was released back to his grandmother. No charges were listed in the incident.
