Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ to raise funds for Emmaus Shelter

The Emmaus Shelter hosts its fourth annual Miss Emma’s Ice Cream Crankin’ fundraiser Sunday. Participants bring homemade ice cream to the event on Lafayette Square in downtown LaGrange and offer it to attendees. Ice cream contest entry is free. The event starts at 2 p.m. To sample ice cream, a family pass is $15 and individual pass is $5. Children also can ride a train and enjoy hot dogs and popcorn. The Miss Beauty and Mister Cutey Contest is on tap for children up to 16 years old dressed in their “Sunday best.” Entry for the contest is $15 or 3 gallons of ice cream. There also will be a talent show at no cost to entrants – choirs, dancers, karate practitioners and other family performers are welcome. Walk to End Alzheimer’s set to raise awareness, research

The Alzheimer’s Association hosts the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at Vernon Woods Retirement Community at 101 Vernon Woods Drive off Vernon Street. Registration for the 2 mile walk is available at www.georgiawalk.org by selecting LaGrange from the list on the left of the page. Participants may also register at 8 a.m. the day of the walk. A ceremony at 9 a.m. precedes the event. The walk is planned to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Church yard sale to benefit outeach projects

Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 200 Lafayette Parkway, hosts a yard sale 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 19. The yard sale benefits Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Camp Viola, the clothing center, LaGrange Personal Aid and Twin Fountains, along with Florence Hand Home, where they host an annual birthday party for residents.
