LaGRANGE — A man was charged with murder Thursday in the death of a 4-month-old child.

LaGrange police investigators announced Thursday evening that an autopsy revealed infant Skylar King died Tuesday from blunt-force trauma to the head.

Detectives have ruled the infant’s death as a homicide. Police have arrested the mother’s boyfriend, Brandon Heard, 30, of Whispering Pines Apartments, 1515 Hogansville Road, in connection with his death.

Investigators said Heard was the infant’s caregiver during the day while the mom, Tawana King, was at work.

Police were called out to the Whispering Pines Apartments on Tuesday afternoon after baby Skylar was reportedly found unresponsive. Investigators stated that, despite administering life-saving measures, the infant was pronounced deceased at West Georgia Medical Center within an hour of his arrival.

An autopsy was performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which reported its findings to LaGrange Police Department investigators.

Detectives said they determined through an ongoing investigation the infant suffered the injury during the day Tuesday, and police believe it was inflicted by Heard.

Heard was being held in the Troup County Jail this morning on charges of murder and cruelty to children in the first degree.
