Alleged shoplifter runs from police, caught

A foot chase following a shoplifting incident ended in an arrest Wednesday.

Officers began chasing the suspect near the intersection of Fleming and Hill streets after he allegedly took items from an unspecified location. Officers caught up with the suspect around Hill and Greenville streets.

When the suspect apparently realized he had nowhere else to run, he gave up.

The report noted an officer received a minor injury – a bruised heel – during the chase.

In other shoplifting incidents reported:

• A man allegedly tried to steal snack cakes from the Summit gas station on West Point Road on Thursday. The male suspect reportedly grabbed the cakes from an aisle and placed them in his pocket. After purchasing a lottery ticket, the suspect left on foot and was later apprehended near Pegasus Parkway. The cakes were valued at $1.

• On Friday a man was arrested for shoplifting steaks from Publix on Commerce Avenue by placing the steaks in his pants. The two steaks, tenderloins, were valued at $45.13. The suspect claimed he stole the steaks because he was hungry.

Thefts

• A Craftsman tiller was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Young’s Mill Road on Thursday. The resident says that during the night someone stole the tiller and she noticed it in the morning. The tiller was valued at $318.

• A phone was reported stolen at West Georgia Technical College camps off Orchard Hill Road on Thursday. The complainant claims that when her teacher dismissed the class for a break she left her phone in her purse in the classroom. When she returned, the phone and $10 were missing. The phone was valued at about $400.
