There hasn’t been a whole lot of suspense for the Lafayette Christian School Cougars.

In their season opener, the Cougars built a 35-8 lead on the way to a 35-22 victory over Appling Christian.

On Friday, in their first road game of the season, the Cougars found themselves leading 37-0 through three quarters, and they rolled to a 51-26 win over Solid Rock Academy.

With the comfortable lead, Lafayette Christian head coach Nate Shaw emptied the bench to get all of his players some game experience.

The Cougars jumped out to a 7-0 lead on an Eli Shepherd 3-yard touchdown run and a Morgan Channell extra point with 2:28 to play in the opening quarter.

Lafayette Christian’s defense then got into the act, with Jacob Lueken returning an interception 15 yards for the touchdown, and the Cougars ended the first quarter with a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Jemi Reed scored on a 5-yard run, and the Cougars had a 21-0 lead at the half.

The Cougars got two points on a safety early in the third quarter, and after the free kick, Shepherd scored on a 3-yard run, and it was a 29-0 game after the unsuccessfull two-point conversion attempt.

After another safety pushed the lead to 31-0, freshman quarterback Landon Whitley got into the act with a 3-yard scoring run, and the Cougars led 37-0 with 3:23 to play in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Solid Rock scored three straight touchdowns to make it a 37-20 game with 2:38 to play.

Just 15 seconds later, the Cougars responded with a 44-yard touchdown run by Reed.

After another Solid Rock touchdown, Reed capped the scoring with a 12-yard scoring run with 37 seconds left in the game.

Lafayette Christian will be at home on Friday for a game against Covenant Christian.
