2 arrested in armed robbery of LaGrange McDonalds

LaGRANGE — Two people remain in the Troup County Jail this morning and an 8-year-old girl is recovering after an armed robbery turned into a wrong-way chase and eventual crash on Interstate 85 Thursday evening.
LaGrange police said DaQuan Ellis, 18, and Monique Quarterman, 30, both from Manchester, were arrested after a robbery at the McDonalds located at 2408 Whitesville Road, near Interstate 85, at gunpoint.
According to investigators, Ellis allegedly entered the establishment around 6:30 p.m. with a pistol, went behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt.
Ellis allegedly left the restaurant and ran to a nearby car where Quarterman and the child were waiting, a police report states.
An eyewitness gave LaGrange police officers a description of the vehicle Ellis allegedly was driving.
Investigators said police were able to locate the car on Interstate 85 and tried to get Ellis stop.
According to Sgt. Maurice Raines, Post Commander with the Georgia State Patrol post 2 LaGrange, at one point the car Ellis was driving reached speeds of 105 miles per hour and was driving north in the southbound lanes. The car then traveled the wrong way up the off ramp that leads to Interstate 185.
Raines said at that point a GSP trooper conducted a PIT maneuver on the vehicle. The car flipped several times and came to a stop.
Both Raines and LPD investigators said that is when they discovered the 8-year-old child inside the vehicle.
According to the report, she was not seriously injured, but Raines said she was flown to a Columbus hospital “as a precaution.”
Ellis and Quarterman had minor injuries. Police said they were taken to West Georgia Medical Center for treatment and then taken to jail.
The pair are both charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, cruelty to a child in the first degree, felony fleeing and eluding and numerous traffic offenses.
