PINE MOUNTAIN — Callaway Gardens will host two dinners for events going on this weekend.

On Friday, a Craft Beer Dinner is set at The Gardens Restaurant to precede Saturday’s Craft Beer Festival on Robin Lake Beach. The dinner will begin 7 p.m. Friday with a reception, followed by a dinner created by Executive Chef Michael Gonzalez and his culinary team.

Each course has been paired with a special craft beer by an expert from Columbus’ Cannon Brew Pub, according to Gardens officials, to bring out the best in the beer and meal.

To make a reservation, call 1-855-901-2154.

The second annual Craft Beer Festival is 2–5 p.m. Saturday. The festival is an “all-you-can-taste extravaganza,” according to organizers, with more than 50 craft beers from 25 vendors. Experts will be on hand to answer questions.

The bands Secret Sauce and The Barstool Prophets will perform live music, and big screens will show college football.

A ticket to the beer fest includes a souvenir mug. An overnight Craft Beer Festival package is available for those who wish to stay at the Gardens.

Gardens officials reminded attendees to bring a designated driver. Callaway Gardens will be offering discounted admission for guests not planning to participate in the drinking part of the festival.

Blue morpho butterfly wine reception and dinner

On Sept. 25, the Gardens hosts a Blue Morpho Wine Reception and Dinner to cap off its Blue Morpho Butterfly Month at the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center.

Typically there are more than 1,000 tropical butterflies of various kinds flying freely throughout the conservatory at the butterfly center; however, this month it is filled exclusively with blue morpho butterflies.

The blue morpho is a iridescent blue butterfly native to the rain forests of South and Central America. The undersides of the wings are brown with eye spots, but the contrasting upper sides could be considered the most brilliant, vivid blue that nature has to offer, according to Gardens officials.

Attendees to the Sept. 25 event may take a walk through the butterfly center with a complementary glass of red wine. The butterflies will be attracted to the wine, Gardens officials noted, “becoming your new best friends.”

Cost to attend the event is $45 per person and attendees will get admission into the Gardens and it’s attractions, a wine reception with one complementary glass of red wine and a buffet dinner at the Day Butterfly Center. The buffet dinner will offer a choice of chicken and salmon. A cash bar will be available for additional drinks.

Anyone interested in reserving a space for the dinner must do so by Sept. 23 and may call 1-844-265-7906 or go to www.callawaygardens.com, click on “Events” at the top of the page, then choose “Daily Calendar of Events” from the drop down menu, click on Sept. 25, then scroll down and choose “Blue Morpho Butterfly Wine Reception and Dinner” and click the link on that page.
