A man who refused to get out of a taxi cab found himself in more trouble than he bargained for when a LaGrange police officer spotted a baggie filled with suspected cocaine on him.

The cab driver called police just after midnight Wednesday morning as she sat in her taxi in the 100 block of McGee Street. She told the officer she drove two men from McGee to New Franklin Road — but one of the males could not decide where he wanted to go, so she took them back to McGee Street.

The driver told the officer that the men paid the fare, but now one of the riders refused to get out of the cab.

According to the report, the officer told the man repeatedly to exit the vehicle and finally told him if he did not get out, he would go to jail. The rider told the officer, “I’ll go to jail.”

The officer stated that, as he was searching the subject, he located a small baggie containing a white powdery substance. When he asked the man if it was cocaine, the officer said the suspect stated “yes.”

The man, identified as Davon Tashawn Anderson, 23, of LaGrange, was arrested and charged with cocaine possession.

Man hides from police, caught with drugs

One man allegedly hid from LaGrange police officers after they said he tried to burglarize a residence Tuesday morning, but was caught and booked on more charges.

Officers responded to the burglary in progress at a home in the 200 block of E. Hillside Drive 9:15 a.m. Tuesday after someone reported seeing a male tampering with windows.

After arriving, officers found no one at the house, but noticed two window screens had been removed. While checking the area, an officer noticed a man run through a neighbor’s yard and hide underneath a deck.

Police commanded the man to come out and placed him in handcuffs. While searching the suspect, officers said they discovered a glass smoking device that contained a Brillo pad with white residue officers believed to be crack cocaine.

Police said they later determined the man to be Eddie Lipscomb, 36. The house belonged to a relative and he did not have permission to be there, stated officers.

Lipscomb was charged with criminal trespass, obstruction of an officer and possession of cocaine.
