A LaGrange police officer early Tuesday morning helped nab a wanted man out of West Point during a safety check point.

The officer said he noticed the driver of a 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant make a u-turn in the middle of Daniel Street around 3 a.m. The officer jumped in his patrol car to find the driver and located him on Dix Street, where he pulled him over.

According to the report, the driver got out of the car and began to walk away from it.

After the officer was given consent to search the driver and the car, the police report states both came up empty for contraband.

The officer said when he asked the driver his name, he gave the wrong identity. But the officer soon identified the man as Tommy Barnes, 44, whose address was unavailable.

Barnes had nine active warrants out for his arrest through the West Point Police Department, including criminal trespass, stalking, terroristic threats and acts, obstructing or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call, aggravated battery, felony automobile theft and three counts of third-degree child cruelty, the report states. He also had one active warrant through the Troup County Sheriff’s Office.

Barnes was arrested and issued citations by the LPD officer on charges of driving on a suspended license, obstruction and making an illegal u-turn.

Burglary

A woman came home home to find her Samsung Smart TV missing from her bedroom, but an extra T-shirt lying on the floor.

She told police she left her home in the 1100 block of Second Avenue around 4 p.m. Monday, but when she returned just after 8:30 p.m. she noticed her TV was gone.

The victim stated to officers she also noticed that a bedroom window was open and the screen was cut, plus a miniature refrigerator was pulled from under her home and placed under the window. A white T-shirt, which the homeowner believed belonged to the suspect, was also discovered at the bottom of the window.

The estimated cost of the TV was $700.
