WEST POINT — An employee of the Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia plant was “possibly” injured Wednesday at the plant, according to a statement by Kia.

“Earlier (Wednesday), a team member was transported to a local hospital after reporting a possible injury,” said Corrine Hodges, a spokesperson for KMMG, in a written statement. “We have no further information at this time.”

The employee’s age, condition and location of treatment were withheld by officials.

Calls to the West Point Fire Department were not returned by press time this morning. West Point Police Chief Tony Bailey said the police department was not called to the scene.

“Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia is committed to work place safety and the well-being of our team members and anyone else within our gates,” said KMMG’s prepared statement.

KMMG is the largest employer in Troup County and the only auto manufacturer in Georgia.
