Suspected burglar falls out of attic

One of two burglars in a home in the first block of Heard Street made an unusual getaway Wednesday when the landlord walked in on them.
The landlord of the vacant house told officers, who responded about 1:30 p.m., that he had arrived just in time to see a man run out the back door. The second burglar then fell out of a hole in the attic and took off.
According to police, all the electrical plates inside the home were missing and some of the copper wiring had been pulled from the outlets and the wall. Officers said a panel box lid was ripped from the wall and all of the breakers were removed and laying on the floor.
The landlord advised police two space heaters worth $250 each were also missing from inside the residence.
The estimated cost between the items stolen and the damage to the home was $3,500.
Elderly neglect suspected
A woman told LaGrange officers she believes her elderly mother-in-law and father-in-law are being neglected by their caregiver.
She said the woman that takes care of the couple has possession of their car and bank card. According to the relative, on more than one occasion, she has had to call the caregiver to feed the couple. She told officers her mother-in-law and father-in-law sometimes get only one meal a day.
The relative also stated the caregiver is rarely at the house.
Police were investigating.
Wrong way driver
Bad directions landed one driver behind bars Wednesday night.
A LaGrange officer said he spotted a driver in a 1999 Nissan Maxima traveling the wrong way down one-way McGee Street around 8:45 p.m.
He stopped the car and asked the driver to identify herself. According to the officer, she gave him a false name.
The officer stated he also smelled a strong odor of marijuana, so he searched the vehicle and found the driver’s ID with her real name on it.
According to the report, the officer checked her license and it was reported suspended.
The officer arrested the driver and issued her citations for driving on a suspended license, obstruction and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
