LaGRANGE — With the Junior Service League’s 41st annual Attic Sale around the corner, attic sale co-chairs Mary Francis Bushey and Lacey DeLong said community support has been the driving force behind the success of the sale.

The JSL will once again host its attic sale Oct. 3 at its traditional location, the old Westbrook Tire building on Main Street.

Bushey said the year-long project sells donated items at a low price, and the event averages 500 shoppers and rakes in an estimated $25,000 to $35,000 each year.

The attic sale is JSL’s largest fundraiser for contributing to community programs like Teen Maze, Boys and Girls Club, hearing and vision screenings for schools, and minigrants that go toward funding different organizations in Troup County.

DeLong said every cent of the money raised through the sale goes to those programs.

“Because we’ve done it so long and we’ve seen the money go directly back into our community, it’s something that everybody just supports and really embraces … they know it goes directly to their hometown,” she said.

DeLong and Bushey said the continued support of the sale demonstrates how LaGrange is a community unlike any other, willing to invest in local programs.

“We embrace our own,” DeLong said.

DeLong said the sale is a annual staple of LaGrange, which a lot of people depend on and is a one-stop shop for any needs including the holiday season coming up.

“We have tons of things priced really low, so you can find all kind of treasures anywhere from bedding to Christmas trees, microwaves; anything you can ever think of that you could possibly need for the year, we have,” DeLong said. “Everything is very affordable.”

Other items include furniture, toys, electronics, sporting goods and kitchen items.

DeLong and Bushey gave a preview of some items to look out for, including mink coats, flat-screen televisions, Christmas trees and an entire kitchen donated by a community member, including the cabinets.

The sale will start 8 a.m. Oct. 3 with an early admission fee of $5. Admission is $1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A preview sale is 6–8 p.m. Friday with $5 admission.
