John Tures was appalled at Ben Carson’s statement that he could support a Muslim presidential candidate only if he or she denounced Sharia law.

He made much of the fact that the Constitution allows persons of any faith or no faith to run for office, a fact that Ben Carson did not dispute. But speaking of the Constitution, it does require the president to swear to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

That would pose a problem for someone who is committed to Sharia law, which is different enough from American laws and principles to be mutually exclusive for the most part. There is plenty of information, pro and con, online about Sharia law.

Check it out and make your own judgment. If you think a person cannot serve as a court clerk because her beliefs are at odds with the job requirements, why would you elect a president who would be in the same situation?
