FAYETTEVILLE – After losing the first game of Wednesday’s region-tournament series against Whitewater on a walk-off home run, the Troup Lady Tigers dropped the second and deciding game 7-2.

Troup will host Woodward Academy next week in a three-game series, with the winner securing Region 5-AAAA’s third seed for the state tournament, while the loser will be the fourth seed.

In the first game of the best-of-three series, Troup and Whitewater kept trading punches, and the game went all the way to the ninth inning.

Troup scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead, but Whitewater rallied to tie it in the bottom of the inning before winning it 5-3 on a two-run, walk-off home run.

Troup is the tournament’s number three seed, while Whitewater is seeded second.

Troup had a 1-0 lead before Whitewater tied it on an unearned run in the sixth inning.

It remained 1-1 through seven innings, and it was on to extra innings.

Using the international tiebreaker, each team began the eighth inning with a runner on second base.

In the top of the eighth, Kayla Lane singled in Andrea Nix to give Troup a one-run lead, but Whitewater tied it in the bottom of the inning.

In the ninth inning, Amber Arnold’s sacrifice fly brought in Madison McCartney, and Troup once again had a one-run lead.

Whitewater tied it in the bottom of the inning before getting the game-winning home run.

Troup scored the game’s first run in its first at-bat.

Hanna Lane led off the first inning with a walk, and she later scored on a Kayla Lane groundout.

Kayla Lane finished the first game with two RBIs.

In Game 2, Maddie Weathers was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Troup, and Kayla Lane also had two hits.

Libby Wheeler had a base hit with a run scored, and McCartney and Kinley Stanford also had hits.

In the other region-tournament series, top-seeded Carrollton made easy work of fourth-seeded Woodward Academy, and it will play Whitewater for the region championship.

After winning the first game 12-0, Carrollton finished off the sweep with a 9-1 win.

Since Troup is the higher seed, it will be at home against Woodward, and they will play a doubleheader on Tuesday, and if needed, a third game would be Wednesday.

Troup and Woodward Academy have played twice this season, and they’ve each won once.

Troup beat Woodward Academy 9-0 at home, but Woodward won the rematch 8-7.
