LaGRANGE — Three people were injured in back-to-back car wrecks Friday in separate parts of LaGrange.

In the first accident, a child was transported to a hospital in Columbus for a possible broken leg after a wreck at North Greenwood and West Haralson streets about 1:15 p.m.

LaGrange police officer Wesley Engle said a woman was driving a black 2010 Toyota Corolla southbound on Greenwood Street. She turned to tend to two children in the back seat of the car and drove through a red light.

According to Engle, the Corolla struck a Dodge Ram truck on the driver’s side as it crossed on West Haralson Street.

The impact caused all the airbags inside the Corolla to deploy. The crash knocked over some material, including paint cans, in a trailer towed behind the truck.

Engle said the child was the only one transported to the hospital.

The driver of the Corolla was cited for failure to stop at a red light, Engle stated.

In a second wreck, a 16-year-old girl and her 54-year-old father suffered minor injures when their SUV flipped upside down on Whitesville Road near Murphy Road and the Long Cane Creek bridge.

The single-vehicle accident happened about 1:30 p.m. when the 16 year old was driving northbound with her father as a passenger toward LaGrange.

The Mercury Mountaineer she was driving struck a guard rail twice, flipping after the second impact, according to a Georgia State Patrol trooper at the scene of the wreck. No one was trapped inside the vehicle.

The girl suffered cuts to her arm and was treated on scene by paramedics. The father’s arm was also injured, but he declined to be treated by medics; neither person was taken to the hospital.

One lane of traffic was blocked while GSP troopers investigated the wreck and a tow truck removed the crashed SUV.

In general, troopers advise motorists to stay alert and always wear a seat belt. A trooper on scene cautioned against distracted driving and urged motorists to stay off their phones while driving. The trooper also said he was unsure if distraction had been a factor in the wreck.

The crash is being investigated by GSP and it was unclear at press time if any citations were issued.
