LaGRANGE — The Junior Service League on Saturday marked down the 41st annual Attic Sale in the history books — and this one may prove to be the biggest event to date.

The rain, wind and somewhat chilly temperatures could not keep eager shoppers away from one of the most popular sales in LaGrange, according to Mary France Bushey, Attic Sale co-chair.

“We weren’t sure what to expect for our pre-sale event on Friday night because of the rain. So we decided only to have one cash register open instead of the usual three,” Bushey said. “Usually we only have about 150 people show up to our Friday night event. Last night, (Friday) we had 300 … in two hours we made over $11,000.”

The members of the Junior Service League were not disappointed on Saturday as long lines of people waiting to get inside the old Westbrook Tire warehouse off Main Street stretched into the parking lot and down the sidewalk.

The warehouse was transformed into a shopper’s paradise, filled with items for a person’s home, lawn and much more. From electronics, holiday decorations and furnishings, to clothing, jewelry, toys and games for children — all at basement-bargain prices.

“Everything at the Attic Sale is discounted, lots of steals and deals,” said Bushey. “We really couldn’t do this without the community’s support.”

All the money raised by the event goes right back into the community, Bushey added. The Junior Service League uses the funds to support area projects near and dear to their heart. The funds go toward vision and hearing screenings within the Troup County School System, the Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia, the Teen Maze program and grant money for different organizations throughout the community.

Bushey said the Attic Sale usually brings in between $25,000 – $30,000 each year. The JSL was still tallying their total earnings as of press time today.

While the 2015 Attic Sale still had a few hours left to go, Bushey said the Junior Service League members were already planning for next year’s event.
