Staff report

PINE MOUNTAIN — Chipley Historical Center and the Pine Mountain First United Methodist Church, 206 N. McDougald Ave., are sponsoring an “old-fashioned sacred harp singing” at the Methodist church’s family life center.

The free event is set for 2:30–5 p.m. Oct 25. Refreshments will be provided.

A group from metro Atlanta is coming to explain sacred harp singing and get the a cappella singing started.

Sacred harp is a version of shape-note singing using four notes of the scale instead of seven. It is often called “fa-so-la” singing. A descendant of B.F. White, who co-published the first Sacred Harp songbook in 1844, from Columbus is also scheduled to attend.
