Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department are searching for a man who allegedly robbed his girlfriend and falsely imprisoned her at a home in the 900 block on Williams Street early Sunday morning.

Officers met with the victim who said her boyfriend, Talley Copeland, 40, of LaGrange, entered her home between 4 and 5 a.m. Sunday and wanted to talk to her. She told the police that when she refused, he slapped her in the back of the head.

The victim said she attempted to leave, but Copeland allegedly yelled he would “kill her” if she walked out.

According to the woman, when she tried to walk out the front door, Copeland snatched her cellphone from her and refused to allow her to leave by blocking the doorway. The woman told police she continued to try and get out of the home, but Copeland continued to tell her she could not leave and stood in front of the door.

According to the police report, there were several witnesses to the incident who saw Copeland threaten the victim. The woman was finally able to leave the residence with friends and called 911, the report states.

LaGrange Police Sgt. William Nelson said investigators are looking for Copeland and could charge him with robbery and false imprisonment under the Family Violence Act.

Church AC unit stolen

One area church may be grateful the weather is cooling down, since someone stole one of its outdoor air-conditioning units.

A member of the New Macedonia Church at 111 Johnson St. told LaGrange police the theft occurred sometime between 10 a.m. Thursday and 1:30 p.m. Friday, when he filed the report.

The member said the air-conditioning equipment was believed to be a Heil 10 ton unit valued around $2,500.

Neighborhood break-ins

Some homeowners in a subdivision on the city’s south side woke up Saturday morning to find their cars broken into, according to LaGrange Police.

Two of the victims lived in the 500 block of Bryant Lake Boulevard.

One woman told police someone stole a Phillips portable DVD player and a small Coach ladies wallet out of her 2012 Kia Sorrento. She also admitted to officers the doors to her SUV were unlocked as it sat on her driveway.

Another woman said her husband’s Ford Sport Trac truck had been broken into, and while someone had rummaged through it, nothing was taken.

Another nearby resident told police she came home in the 300 block of Linman Drive on Friday evening and found her back door was open. Nothing inside the house was missing or disturbed.

Police are investigating.

Burglary

A burglar with a penchant for electronics made a fast getaway from a home in the 500 block of South Lee Street on Saturday afternoon.

The homeowner told LaGrange police when she returned to the house around 4:30 p.m. she noticed the TV in her living room was gone. Also stolen was a 42-inch, flat-screen TV from her nephew’s bedroom, a Verizon Ellipsis Tablet, an RCA Tablet and a Samsung Galaxy S3 cellphone. The total value was estimated around $1,300.

Officers said it appeared the burglar entered through a window in the nephew’s bedroom, went through his closet tossing around shoe boxes before grabbing the electronics and leaving from the back door.
