LaGrange College’s golf team wrapped up its fall season with a second-place finish in the Chick-Fil-A Invitational that was held at Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome.

The Panthers fired a team score of 289 in the final round, and they had an 872 total to finish behind Berry College.

Anthony Scolapio and Logan Lanier both came through with top-five finishes for the Panthers.

Scolapio had rounds of 70, 73 and 71, and he finished second behind Berry College’s Ryan Elmore, and he was named the USA South golfer of the week.

Lanier posted scores of 74, 71 and 70, and he finished in a tie for third place.

Next for the Panthers was Osborn Theam, who bounced back from a disappointing 81 in the second round to close with a 73.

Theam, who had an opening-round 74, finished 20th.

Eric Havixbeck had an 84 in the first round, but he recovered from that and carded scores of 70 and 75 the next two days to finish 22nd.

Jake Haggerty had scores of 75, 76 and 79, and he finished 29th.

“I thought we played pretty good against another strong field,” LaGrange College coach Lee Richter said. “Berry has some experienced players and they were playing on their home course. Anthony had a big tournament for us and I thought our freshman Jake Haggerty played well.”

The Panthers will now take some time off before kicking off the spring season in February.

“We had a good fall with two second-place finishes and now we’ll get ready for the spring,” Richter said. “Logan played really well and he’ll head into the spring ranked fifth in Division III by Golfstat.”

VOLLEYBALL: LaGrange College is hoping to put together its first winning streak of the month with a home win today.

The Panthers, who got a road win over Agnes Scott on Tuesday, will be at home today for a 7 p.m. match against Talladega (Ala.).

It’s been a tough October for the Panthers, who had dropped eight of nine matches before beating Agnes Scott.

The Panthers improved to 10-16 overall with Tuesday’s win.

The Panthers won the first set 25-19, but they lost the second set 25-22 and it was all even.

LaGrange College finished strong, winning the final two sets 25-17 and 25-22.

Lexi Hall and Maggie Ivester each had 12 kills, Danyelle Carr had 11 kills, and Emily Arnold had 10.

Ivester contributed 23 digs, Hall had 19, and Aspen Coggins contributed 17.

After today’s game, LaGrange College returns to USA South play on Saturday with matches against Ferrum and Averett.
