LaGRANGE — The Troup County High School theater department is gearing up for a busy season this year, starting with their one-act show “Getting Near to Baby” at 7 p.m. Nov. 5.

Tickets are $5 at the door. Based on the novel with the same name,”Getting Near to Baby” is the story of two sisters, Willa Jo and Little Sister Dean, who go to live with their Aunt Patty and Uncle Hob after their baby sister dies as a result of drinking tainted water.

The girls become fast friends with the dreaded Fingers kids from across the street and even quicker enemies with the charm school trained Wainwright sisters. This makes Aunt Patty feel like she is having “half a heart attack” a great deal of the time.

“It is a beautiful story of love and loss, and how, with the help of those who love us, we can push through the pain and learn to live again,” said Noel Jordan, THS theater director.

The show is appropriate for all school aged children and adults.

On Dec. 11, students will perform the Christmas special “Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.” Based on the best-selling book series by Barbara Park, Junie B. is super-excited about the upcoming holiday sing-along and Secret Santa gift exchange at her school, but tattletale May keeps ruining all of her fun.

When Junie B. draws May’s name for Secret Santa, she comes up with the perfect plan to teach her nemesis a lesson. But will the Christmas spirit of peace and goodwill intervene?

Shows start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
