LaGRANGE — Involvement in a child’s education is important, especially for parents, grandparents and guardians. That’s why Troup County School System is recognizing the month of November as Parent Engagement Month.

In November 2012, Gov. Nathan Deal declared the month’s theme in a proclamation from the state. To celebrate, TCSS will highlight the role parents, grandparents and guardians play in a student’s education. For example, a list of quick tips and various local success stories will be shared on the district’s website and Facebook page. Also, the Department of Education is hosting a parent video contest as a way to increase awareness of involvement in education.

“Do you want to know what makes a huge difference in your child’s education? You do,” said Nicole Stewart, TCSS parental involvement coordinator. “Every student should have a support system that values and encourages educational achievement. That support system is ideally made up of parents, grandparents and anyone who loves the student and encourages educational success.”

Additionally, Nov. 19 is National Parent Involvement Day. This is a day for all parents to consider how they can get more involved in the education of their children. Each school website, along with troup.org, has posted a Parent Engagement Month calendar that showcases examples of activities parents can use to spur learning in the home. An age-appropriate, specialized calendar is available for each level of learning — elementary, middle and high school.
