LaGRANGE — THINC College & Career Academy hosted an education career focus seminar for participating high school students. The objective of the event was to expose students to various careers in education in hopes of spurring interest in the field.

During the session, students were actively engaged and asked questions to the diverse group of speakers. Kitty Crawford, director of special education, used the interactive Plickers app to quiz the students about their opinion on education as it affects them daily and how to become an outstanding educator.

Other topics shared with the group were “Human Resources: Careers in Education,” “Workforce Development: Connecting with Careers in our Community” and “West Georgia Technical College: Early Childhood Education.”

After the presentations, students toured THINC Academy to learn more about the different classes and pathways offered on the campus.

The morning session ended with an education panel discussion that included community, student and business leaders. For lunch, the students boarded a bus heading to LaGrange College to eat and tour the campus. They were welcomed by Dr. David McGrael, director of access and admissions. Vicki Pheil, assistant professor of education, provided more information on education-related topics during the campus tour and an overview of available programs offered by the private college.

At the end of the day, participating students traveled back to their schools with more knowledge about the education profession.
