THS to present ‘Tribute to Veterans’

LaGRANGE — The Troup High School Choral Department will present “A Tribute to Veterans” on Nov. 10.

There will be 110 choral members to share the stage with select students from Long Cane Middle School and all Troup zone elementary schools.

Kathy Kirby is in her third year as the choral director at Troup High after teaching music for 17 years at Long Cane and Berta Weathersbee elementary schools. Kirby began her career in Douglasville as band director of Chestnut Log Middle School before becoming the music specialist at Long Cane.

In 1996, she moved to LaGrange and has been an active member of the arts community. Kirby has served on the LaGrange Symphony Board and has played oboe with the symphony since 1996.

The Nov. 10 concert will feature the Long Cane Middle School choirs under the direction of Robin Treadwell. The elementary schools participating are Long Cane, Rosemont, Berta Weathersbee, Whitesville Road and West Point. Music teachers from these schools are Clarissa Duncan, Cindy Brown and Patricia Dees.

Also featured on the program will be guest oboist from Columbus Lauren Murray, and LaGrange’s Treadwell, Johnny Hurd and Rebecca Hafner-Camp will accompany the choirs.

The concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Troup High School Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free.
