LaGRANGE — One family will have to find a temporary place to live after their apartment caught fire this weekend at the Tall Pines Apartment homes at 150 Turner St.

The LaGrange Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched to the apartments about 2:15 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters said when they arrived, there was heavy smoke pouring out of the breezeway of building B1. They determined flames were coming from the kitchen of apartment #12.

Crews made sure all occupants were out of the apartment and then began extinguishing the blaze. Firefighters said they had the flames out by 2:30 a.m.

According to Lt. Chris Taylor, public information officer with the LaGrange Fire Department, the fire was confined to the kitchen and living room area, which also sustained smoke and water damage.

Taylor said the damage was estimated at $14,000.

LaGrange fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was due to unattended cooking.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide assistance to the family.

LaGrange police and EMS helped evacuate everyone from the building.

Firefighters said no one was injured.
