LaGRANGE — Earlier this week, THINC College & Career Academy was named a state finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest with a potential grant of more than $2 million in technology products.

More than 250 schools across the nation were named finalists, five of them from Georgia. The state winner will receive $20,000 in technology for their school and compete against 50 other finalists for the national prize.

The purpose of the contest is to “excite students about the possibilities of STEM education,” according to the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow website. In addition, the program encourages teachers and students to solve real-world issues in their community while using classroom STEM skills.

The next step is for THINC teachers to submit a lesson plan outlining how they will address a community issue with their students while working to better the community. Next month, five national winners will be named and honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
