LAGRANGE – They’ll get plenty of mat time over the next two days.

The host Troup Tigers will be among the 10 teams participating in the Dariel Daniel Grind, a two-day, dual-format tournament that will see each of the teams wrestle a total of nine matches.

The tournament is named in honor of Dariel Daniel, the enormously successful former Troup wrestling coach who died in a car accident two years ago.

“It’s exactly what the tournament says, it’s a grind,” said Troup head coach Craig Garner, whose team will wrestle five matches today and four more on Wednesday. “I think that’s kind of fitting with coach Daniel, and his style, and the way he coached. It’s nine matches in two days. It’s pretty tough.”

LaGrange High will be one of the 10 teams vying for the tournament title.

The other tournament participants are Alcovy, Upson-Lee, Lamar County, Luella, LaGrange, Blessed Trinity, Carrollton, Harris County and Ola.

Troup and LaGrange are both coming off successful tournaments last weekend.

LaGrange participated in the Hardaway Invitational in Columbus, and Guy Wegienka finished first in his weight class, and Matt Watford finished second in his division.

Troup competed in a tournament at Whitewater High School, and Steven McClendon earned a first-place finish, and Brantly Robinson and Jeremiah McClendon both had second-place finishes.

Callaway was also at the Hardaway Invitational, and sophomore Justin Kiss continued his stellar season by capturing an individual title.
