HOGANSVILLE – The six-team LaGrange Toyota Basketball Classic will kick off today at LaGrange High, with three games on tap.

First up at 4:30 p.m. it’ll be Opelika taking on Mundy’s Mill, and Lithia Springs and Upson Lee will play at 6 p.m.

In the day’s final game, LaGrange will play WD Mohammed at 7:30 p.m.

There will be three more games on Tuesday, and three on Wednesday as well, including the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The Grangers will bring a 9-1 record into the tournament.

The LaGrange Lady Grangers (6-4), who ended their stay in the War Eagle Classic at Woodward Academy last week with an overtime win over Grady, won’t play again until Jan. 5 when they begin their Region 1-AAAAA schedule at home against Hardaway.

Callaway’s teams are both off until Saturday.

The Cavaliers are 4-2 after outlasting the Troup Tigers on Dec. 19, and they’ll return to action on Saturday with a game at Harris County.

After visiting Lanett on Jan. 5, Callaway will begin its Region 5-AAA schedule on Jan. 8 at Central-Carroll.

The Cavaliers have won three consecutive region championships.

The Callaway girls’ team, which improved to 2-4 with a 47-44 win over Troup on Dec. 19, lost at home to Harris County earlier this season, and it will look to avenge that loss on Saturday in Hamilton.

In private-school basketball, the LaGrange Academy and Lafayette Christian teams are both in the midst of extensive breaks.

LaGrange Academy’s teams, who last played on Dec. 17, will get back at it on Jan. 5 with road games against Heritage in Newnan.

Lafayette Christian School’s most recent games were on Dec. 14, and the boys’ and girls’ teams return to the court on Jan. 5 against Ballard Christian.

LaGrange College’s teams will return from their holiday breaks on Saturday as they visit Covenant College for a USA South doubleheader.
