LaGRANGE — Shoppers looking to find a good deal in town will soon have a new place to spend their hard-earned cash.

Emma’s Attic 2 is set to open its doors at 206 Broome St. in February.

The store will be owned and operated by the Emmaus Shelter, which helps homeless men, women and children in the community.

Jessica David, executive director of the Emmaus Shelter, said the building was leased to the agency courtesy of the Callaway Foundation. The shop, called Emma’s Attic 2, will be an “upscale resale” store.

“It’s all about re-gifting these beautiful things that people have gifted us with,” David explained.

She said those items include high-end clothes and shoes, re-purposed furniture, vintage boutique pieces and more. Also, just in time for prom season, racks full of designer dresses and coats.

“We really hope to capitalize on the sophisticated art tastes of our neighbors,” David said.

The original Emma’s Attic thrift store at 321 Greenville St. will remain open and continue to sell items at bargain prices.

David said the proceeds from both shops will benefit the Emmaus shelters, including the day center, women’s home, the Matthew’s Building men’s shelter and the warming center — when needed — at the old Dawson Street Elementary School. The money will also help fund the many events the organization hosts throughout the year.

“These stores are about the gift of giving all year long,” David explained. “Shopping at Emma’s Attic 1 and 2 you receive the gift of investing in others … if we have a high inventory thanks to donations, we will find a way to make use of them to help the Emmaus Shelter.

“In a world where consumers and sales work really well together, we now have an additional resource to do that through,” she added.

David said once Emma’s Attic 2 officially opens its doors, the hours of operation will be 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The grand opening has not been announced.

David said all donations for both stores will still need to be dropped off at the Emmaus Day Shelter at 321 Greenville St. She said staff and volunteers are willing to schedule more hours during the week to pick up donated items from people’s homes.
