Staff report

Windows were open and air conditioners were running over the weekend as residents coped with three days of record high temperatures while recovering from downpours that brought up to 15 inches of rain to Troup County.

Friday’s high of 76 at LaGrange-Callaway Airport broke the old record of 74 set in 1964. The mercury hit 81 Saturday and 79 Sunday, easily surpassing the previous marks for the date of 75, both set in 1987.

Temperatures will ease as 2015 ends, with daytime highs in the 70s today through Wednesday, the lower 60s Thursday and mid-50s Friday through the weekend. Lows will dip from near 60 tonight to the mid-30s Friday night.

Normal extremes for this time of year are 58 and 36.

But rain has not left the forecast. There’s an 80 percent chance of rain this afternoon and evening, and a good chance Wednesday, followed by partly cloudy skies the rest of the week.
