LaGRANGE — Two people were arrested on felony drug and forgery charges Monday after allegedly using a stolen prescription pad to obtain narcotics.

LaGrange police arrested Brandon T. Cody, 22, and Alana Edmonds, 19, after a pharmacist at Walgreen’s at 115 Vernon Road suspected a prescription the two tried to fill may have been faked, according to police reports.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the two, who were in a Toyota Camry in the pharmacy’s drive through lane. At first, the driver of the vehicle, Edmonds, allegedly tried to back her vehicle away from the police cruiser, but later stopped when the officer flagged them down.

Once the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the Camry, according to his report. Cody allegedly tried to use air freshener to cover the scent, but the officer told him it was “not going to help,” the report stated.

The two were asked to step out of the vehicle and were detained while police searched the Camry for contraband.

Officers said Cody initially tried to make a call using his mobile phone, which investigators believe may have been to a contact in Atlanta.

During their search of the vehicle, officers found a small amount of suspected marijuana, four bottles of the prescription drug promethazine with codine, each of which was named to a different person and filled at different pharmacies in LaGrange on Monday. Additionally, officers found a physician’s prescription pad, which they later confirmed had been stolen. Ten more unfilled prescriptions were found in an envelope in the car, according to the police report.

The two were taken to the Troup County Jail following arrest. As of press time today, they had not been booked.
