WGH welcomes 2016 Insiders class

LaGRANGE — West Georgia Health recently welcomed 20 new participants to its Insiders Series, a program that showcases the excellent medical care available in Troup County and helps participants understand the recent changes in healthcare that affect local families and businesses.
The 2016 class will participate in eight monthly sessions, meet with physicians, tour key departments, and learn about advanced technologies available at West Georgia Health.
In the first session, West Georgia Physicians’ ear, nose and throat specialist Dr. Danielle Warner described advanced ENT technologies available at West Georgia Health. Director of bariatrics C.J. Mask and Hope Zachman, physician assistant, detailed the therapeutic uses of surgery for weight-loss and celebrated the 90,000-pound weight loss achieved by bariatric program patients. Insiders also toured one of West Georgia Health’s operating suites, where WGH surgeon Dr. Paul Major and Manager of Surgical Services Mary Lois Calhoun led the group through a demonstration of advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques.
Chris Turk, senior vice president of manufacturing and operations with Interface found the session interesting and informative.
“This program is outstanding, and I very much appreciate that so many important resources take two hours out their day to meet with us and help us better understand the vital services they provide to the community,” he said.
WGH Insiders will also have the opportunity to learn about WGH’s cardiovascular services, emergency department,Wound Care Center, physical therapy, hospice, home health, women’s health, occupational medicine,Vernon Woods Retirement Community and the cancer clinic.
Byron Jones, chief financial officer with the Troup County School System, was impressed by the advanced care available at West Georgia Medical Center.
“The services provided are 21st century, and we should be proud to have this in our community,” he said.
