LaGRANGE — On Jan. 2, Theta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. kicked off 2016 by awarding four $1,000 scholarships.

One of the sorority’s signature initiatives is to award annual scholarships to deserving students. The members of Theta Xi Omega chapter selected three graduating high school seniors and one student attending a historically black college and university to each receive a scholarship.

Recipients of the scholarships were Tamika Everett from Meriwether County attending Fort Valley State University, Erna Bentley from Harris County attending The University of Georgia, Zamoria Simpson from Troup County attending Wesleyan College and Jahnea Hunter, a senior attending Clark Atlanta University.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is an international Greek lettered sorority that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908. Theta Xi Omega Chapter is a local organization which has served Troup, Coweta, Harris and Meriwether counties for 49 years.
