LAGRANGE – LaGrange Academy will be back at full strength tonight.

For most of the past two games, the Warriors have had to play without their senior standout, post player Whit Moreman.

Moreman injured his ankle in the first half of last Friday’s loss to Bethlehem Christian, and he didn’t play in Tuesday’s victory over Oak Mountain.

Moreman will be ready to go tonight, though, as LaGrange hosts rival Flint River in a GISA Region 1-AA game.

Moreman was enjoying a typically strong performance against Bethlethem Christian when he landed wrong and injured his ankle, and he left the game and didn’t return.

Fortunately for Moreman and the Warriors, the injury didn’t prove to be a serious one.

“He practiced the last two days, and he looks good,” LaGrange Academy head coach Britt Gaylor said. “He probably could have played Tuesday. We wanted to be cautious. So he’s back and healthy.”

The Warriors have hit the home stretch of the regular season.

With Tuesday’s 53-33 win over Oak Mountain, the Warriors (10-5 overall) are 5-2 in the region, and they have five regular-season games remaining, including tonight’s showdown with their rivals from Woodbury.

“Our region’s tough,” Gaylor said. “Night in and night out it’s going to be tough, and (tonight) will be the same thing.”

With Moreman leading the way, the Warriors have the look of a team capable of doing a lot of damage when tournament time rolls around.

Junior Lincoln Anderson, who transferred from Callaway High, has been terrific in his first season with the Warriors, and he scored 26 points in Tuesday’s game.

The two big men are flanked by a number of talented guards who have been knocking down outside shots all season.

The Warriors have had their stumbles this season, but Gaylor knows what his team is capable of.

“I’m excited about it,” Gaylor said. “Everybody goes through that stretch where they’re kind of grinding in the middle of the year. The guys are startingto recognize that hey, if this thing starts to come together and everybody is healthy, it’s going to be a fun end of the year.”

Tonight will be a special occasion since the seniors for the boys’ and girls’ will be recognized.

There is only one senior on the girls’ team, but the boys’ team has six seniors, some of whom haven’t played a whole lot.

“It’ll be fun,” Gaylor said. “I think a couple of them haven’t played much. They’ll get in, and get up and down the court, and have their moment out there. They’ll be able to play against Flint River, too, which is big.”
