LaGRANGE — Police investigated at Troup High School on Friday after someone posted online there was a rumor of a planned shooting, but detectives quickly determined it was unfounded.

LaGrange police said they talked to several students at the school and the person who posted about the rumor. The school was not put on lock down during the investigation and parents were not notified of any threat.

Troup County School System spokesperson Yolanda Stephen said there was an increased presence of police at Troup High School, but also at other schools “due to events over the past week.”

A LaGrange High School student last week was found with a gun at the school after a student reported being threatened. No one was hurt in the incident.

“Any rumors that are circulating about Troup High School are UNTRUE,” reads a statement from Troup County schools that was posted online and issued to the Daily News. “… Rumors of any safety related issues, or a school lock down, are not true.”
