Troup teams fall short at Woodward Academy

COLLEGE PARK – They were a play or two away from getting a second straight region win, but the Troup Tigers were unable to make it happen.

The Tigers, who were coming off last week’s big win over Carrollton, stood toe-to-toe with homestanding Woodward Academy on Tuesday, but they ended up falling 54-48.

The Tigers fell to 1-5 in Region 5-AAAA.

Senior Dexter Shealey had a solid effort for the Tigers with 21 points, and sophomore guard Jarrious Jefferson added 13 points.

In the girls’ game, Troup lost 54-37.

The Lady Tigers, who are also 1-5 in the region, started slowly, and they trailed 11-4 after the first quarter, and they were down 23-17 at the half.

The Lady Tigers were down 35-25 through three quarters, and they ended up losing by 17 points.

Kwyneshia Spence led the way for Troup with 12 points, and Shaqoya Gilbert scored 11 points.

Troup’s teams will look to get back on track on Friday when they host region foe Whitewater.
