LaGRANGE — The Development Authority of LaGrange, which oversees recruitment of industrial businesses and manufacturers, appointed a new president during its board’s regular meeting Monday.

Scott Malone of LaGrange will replace Bobby Carmichael, who will continue as executive director of the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, according to a news release.

Carmichael for the past four years has overseen both authorities.

Malone said he’s excited to lead the Development Authority of LaGrange.

“As a native of LaGrange, I could not be more thrilled to have this unique opportunity to help lead the development effort in our community,” Malone said. “LaGrange has a rich history of leadership and a bright future ahead. These are exciting times for all of us in LaGrange and I look forward to the challenge.”

Malone has extensive experience consulting with companies in the manufacturing and logistics industries, according to a news release. He has worked and lived throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.

Malone holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from Duke University.

His work experience includes more than six years with Andersen Consulting, a market research firm, and almost two years years as president and chief operating officer of Indigo Airlines in Chicago. Most recently he served as managing partner of Granger Inns in LaGrange.

Speer Burdette, chairman of the Development Authority of LaGrange board, said he looks forward to working with Malone.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Scott’s educational experience and work background to lead our economic development efforts here in LaGrange,” Burdette said. “His energy and love for LaGrange will set the stage for continued growth in our community.”

Malone and his wife, Stacey, have two children and attend Saint Peter’s Catholic Church.

He will begin his new position mid-month.
