HOGANSVILLE – Callaway’s Justin Kiss will put his perfect record on the line today.

Kiss is one of nine Callaway wrestlers who will be competing in the Class AAA state sectional in Calhoun, while Troup will have 13 wrestlers in the Class AAAA sectional in Gilmer County.

At all of the sectionals, the goal will be the same.

There are 16 wrestlers in each weight division, and the top eight finishers will advance to the state finals next week.

There’s a pretty good bet Kiss will still be around next week.

The sophomore, who wrestles at 106 pounds, has won every time he has stepped onto the mat this season, and he won the area championship to make it to the sectional round.

Last year as a freshman, Kiss made it to the state finals and placed fifth.

Callaway’s other area champion is Khaliq Swift, who wrestles at 138 pounds.

Callaway’s second-place finishers at the area meet were Ken Wilson, Matthew Wingate, Gabriel Liranzo and Andrew Thomas, and Brandon Boddie finished third.

Jason Freiberg and Nick Trammell both finished fourth to punch their ticket to the state sectional.

Troup had 14 wrestlers competing in the area tournament, and all but one of them advanced to the sectional.

That included Chase Seals and Teddy Harris, who each won area championships.

Troup’s other wrestlers at the sectional will be Trevor Upchurch, Scott Hicks, Colby Harry, Hudson Newton, Jeremiah McClendon, Byron Butts, Steven McClenton, Brantly Robinson, Dre Flagg, Quenton Kersey and Colton Greathouse.

Newton, the only senior in Troup’s lineup, finished sixth at last year’s state meet.
